Spring Clean Your Google Result

von | Apr 8, 2019 | Career Advice | 0 Kommentare

How often have you googled a person you meet, you worked with or came across their names? Equally often people might google you, specially recruiter want to find out more about you and will google your name. So first thing first; google yourself!

What does your google result say? Does it reflect what you want people to know about you, no matter what they are looking for? Is there maybe someone with the same name but doing something completely different?

Before you start cleaning your Google result, find out where you belong to. There are different categories when someone is looking at your search result: the person is not relevant, this is the wrong person or “wow, I have to meet this person”. Obviously, you want to belong to the latter. So how can you improve your result?

Get on Social Media Network.

If not yet done, set up your profile on social media networks such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter. Claim your name and don’t use any fancy fantasy names. Google will trust your name and rank it accordingly. If your name is already taken, use a name that still includes your own name (like NicoleMillerBA).

Claim your domain name and set up a website.

Showcase your skills, expertise and experience by setting up your own website. Find out if your domain name is still available, and start building your own website. This is a great opportunity to learn more about HTML and CSS programming, take one of the many online courses at for example Udemy to learn how to create a website. Or use Squarespace, Wix or WordPress to easily create a website based on templates.

Use some basic SEO.

With a domain, website and social media profiles, it is time to bring in some SEO. Check out this 11 tips you need to know when you optimize your site to get started. Ensure you always use your real name, fill in the profiles on your social media accounts and link them together to increase ranking on google.

Monitor your result.

Now that you are all set, make sure your work is not getting ruined by a bad picture or someone using your name in all the wrong ways. Regularly google yourself to keep track.
