The recent #wetechtogether conference in Zurich was a powerful gathering of women in tech, driven by a shared passion for diversity, inclusion, and breaking down barriers. While we’re proud to have organised this impactful event, the true stars were our attendees and partners – their stories, insights, and experiences are what made #wetechtogether truly special.

In the aftermath of this year’s 6th edition, we’re excited to share some exciting impressions from the conference’s participants.

Connecting with the Community 🤝

As attendee Clara Llorente Lemm, a Software Engineer at Puzzle, eloquently shared in her blog post, “#wetechtogether is not just about learning new skills, but about finding your community – the people who understand your journey and can lift you up.” Clara was initially hesitant to attend alone but quickly found her tribe. “I noticed many others who had attended by themselves, and it didn’t take long to strike up a conversation,” she recalled. She also reflected on the joy of:

“Understanding that there are other people like you out there, with similar backgrounds—both personal and career-wise.”

These serendipitous connections were a common thread, as women from diverse backgrounds united over their love of technology.

Hands-On Learning and Skill-Building 🧠

But of course, #wetechtogether is about learning new skills, too! 😊 Or sharpening an existing one. Another highlight for Clara was the Coding Dojo workshop by Zürcher Kantonalbank and Code Excursion—a hands-on 2-hour session designed for women to improve their coding skills in a collaborative and supportive environment. “The workshop was open to all skill levels, and we worked together in small groups, with a focus on solving the task together,” Clara shared. “Throughout this experience, I was able to connect with many more women and hear their backgrounds and motivations for working in tech.”

The collaborative nature of the coding dojo left a lasting impression on Clara. “We concluded that there are many ways to solve a problem—and one way is not necessarily better than another. Most importantly, I got the impression that we all learned something new that day.”

Practical Insights from Collaborative Workshops

Echoing Clara’s sentiments, a partner community that co-hosted a workshop also shared their key takeaways. In a collaborative session with WE SHAPE TECH and SIX, participants explored the critical intersection of risk, security, and quality management in the financial industry.

As the workshop recap noted, “The highlight was the live demonstrations of solutions that have been successfully implemented in real-world situations. This gave participants a tangible sense of how theoretical concepts can be applied effectively in their own organisations.”

A major focus was on using an inclusive brainwriting method that “ensured that not just the loudest, but all participants’ ideas were part of the solution-finding process”. By bringing diverse perspectives to the table, attendees gained a richer, more comprehensive understanding of integrating these key functions—a benefit they can carry back to their own workplaces. 💡

These stories capture the very essence of #wetechtogether—a movement powered by the belief that diversity is the secret ingredient that will propel the tech industry into a brighter, more innovative future. Through inclusive methods like those in the workshop, participants not only gained skills but also experienced firsthand the strength of collective, diverse thinking in solving real-world challenges. 🌍🤝
